DESCRIPTION:The Sustainability & Resilience Committee continues advancing tools and practices that help St. Pete better withstand storms and climate-driven challenges. We recently launched a Storm Mitigation & Recovery Resources webpage\, complete with a procurement guide\, to support businesses and residents in preparing for\, responding to\, and recovering from severe weather events.  In parallel\, the Committee has been discussing a new Resilient Flood Mitigation Workforce Development proposal — a strategy aimed at building local capacity to address flood risk through trained workers and stronger public‐private partnerships. \nLooking ahead\, mark your calendars for “Get on the Bus: SunRunner Tour” on THIS FRIDAY\, September 19 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. SUMMARY:Legislative Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Our Chamber’s Legislative Committee has released the Legislative Agenda Survey\, inviting members and stakeholders to share priorities for the year ahead. Responses will be used to shape the Chamber’s official legislative agenda\, which we plan to approve at the December Board of Governors meeting. We are also preparing events to engage our community and leadership in the legislative process — a Legislative Preview Lunch is tentatively scheduled for December\, and a group trip to Tallahassee is being planned for February 10-11 to meet with state officials and advocate on behalf of our region.  The Tallahassee trip will again be partnering with Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber and Amplify Clearwater to present a regional effort to meet with policymakers directly. \nOne item under serious consideration is a Chamber appropriation request earmarked toward funding apprenticeship programs and fostering partnerships. The Chamber has been researching and formulating this request along with Tampa Bay Tech\, who already is working on a robust apprenticeship program in partnership with Accenture.  This potential request reflects growing recognition of how workforce training and apprenticeships can strengthen both individual careers and local economic development. \n  \n🗓️ Next Committee Meeting Date: Friday\, September 19 \n🕒 Time: 9:00 am \n📍 Location: St.  Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce \n🔗 Learn more and register here
