SUMMARY:Workforce & Talent Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The St. Petersburg Chamber’s Workforce & Talent Committee has been making great strides in strengthening our community’s talent pipeline. HIRE – The St. Pete Way has recently been refreshed with updated study results and a growing library of resources\, making it an even stronger hub for workforce development in our region. At the same time\, we are in active discussions with Bisk to launch the SkillSync platform\, which will connect job seekers\, employers\, and education providers in a streamlined way to better match skills with opportunities. On August 20\, the Committee hosted a successful meeting highlighting apprenticeship programs across a variety of industries\, underscoring the important role these programs play in preparing a skilled workforce. In addition\, Chamber representatives recently met with Congresswoman Kathy Castor and Senator Nick DiCeglie to explore opportunities to expand and secure apprenticeship funding at the federal and state levels\, ensuring these pathways continue to grow. \nIf you’re passionate about shaping the future of talent in St. Pete\, now is the time to get involved. Employers are encouraged to consider launching or expanding apprenticeship programs\, while job seekers and educators can take advantage of resources available through HIRE – The St. Pete Way and the upcoming SkillSync platform.  Learn more about participating in the SkillSync platform here.

SUMMARY:Housing\, Land Use & Development Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Housing\, Land Use & Development (HLUD) Committee has been advancing important work on historic preservation\, affordable housing\, and permitting reform. The Historic Designation Subcommittee has been meeting with City Council members to discuss updates to the designation process\, while a new Affordable Housing Subcommittee is exploring recommendations such as transit-oriented development (TOD) zoning to expand access to affordable housing. \n  \nPermitting has been another top focus area. On August 8\, the Committee convened a Permitting Round Table\, bringing together Chamber members\, developers\, and city staff. A key outcome was the Chamber’s request for the City to begin publishing data that captures full permit lifecycles\, which would improve transparency\, accountability\, and resource allocation.  City staff expressed openness to continued collaboration with the Chamber to identify metrics that balance accuracy with context\, ensuring both progress and remaining challenges are communicated effectively.  Together\, we can create policies and systems that balance growth\, affordability\, and efficiency—ensuring St. Pete remains a city that is both livable and economically vibrant. \n  \n  \n🗓️ Next Committee Meeting Date: Tuesday\, October 14 \n🕒 Time: 8:45 am \n📍 Location: St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce \n🔗 Learn more and register here

SUMMARY:Transportation Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Transportation Committee is pushing forward on several fronts to improve connectivity and multi-modal options across the region. One major initiative in progress is the ferry feasibility study being led in partnership with Forward Pinellas\, focused on Hillsborough and Manatee counties. As part of that effort\, social media ads have been launched to raise awareness and gather public input. Meanwhile\, the Committee is organizing meetings with regional stakeholders—including the Westshore Alliance\, Tampa International Airport\, Brightline\, and others—to discuss how to improve connectivity\, particularly from a future Tampa station\, during an upcoming meeting. \nOn top of that\, the Committee is excited to highlight the launch of PSTA’s SPARK route. Set to begin service on October 26\, this premium/high-frequency route along 34th Street South will connect Eckerd College to Grand Central Station. Its design and schedule are intended to mirror some of the features that made SunRunner successful—frequent service\, improved transit access\, and better connectivity across Pinellas. \n  \n  \n🗓️ Next Committee Meeting Date: Tuesday\, October 14 \n🕒 Time: 8:00 am \n📍 Location: St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce \n🔗 Learn more and register here

SUMMARY:Downtown Waterfront Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Downtown Waterfront Committee has been active in advocating for thoughtful redevelopment along our waterfront. One of the recent major actions was sending a letter of support for a traffic study along key waterfront corridors\, including the Pier and the Center for the Arts area\, to better understand and address current congestion and pedestrian safety concerns. \n  \nIn July\, the Committee met with the Center for the Arts consultant\, ASD | Sky\, and other project stakeholders to discuss the proposed redevelopment plan. That plan envisions a reimagined arts district spanning from the Mahaffey Theater to the Dali Museum\, with features such as a new parking garage\, expanded green promenade\, enhanced public access\, and retail and arts space. Importantly\, recent revisions to the proposal no longer include a conference center\, reflecting input from community stakeholders and evolving priorities. \n  \n🗓️ Next Committee Meeting Date: Monday\, September 22 \n🕒 Time: 3:30 pm \n📍 Location: St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce \n🔗 Learn more and register here

SUMMARY:Sustainability & Resilience Committee Meeting

SUMMARY:Legislative Committee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Our Chamber’s Legislative Committee has released the Legislative Agenda Survey\, inviting members and stakeholders to share priorities for the year ahead. Responses will be used to shape the Chamber’s official legislative agenda\, which we plan to approve at the December Board of Governors meeting. We are also preparing events to engage our community and leadership in the legislative process — a Legislative Preview Lunch is tentatively scheduled for December\, and a group trip to Tallahassee is being planned for February 10-11 to meet with state officials and advocate on behalf of our region.  The Tallahassee trip will again be partnering with Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber and Amplify Clearwater to present a regional effort to meet with policymakers directly. \nOne item under serious consideration is a Chamber appropriation request earmarked toward funding apprenticeship programs and fostering partnerships. The Chamber has been researching and formulating this request along with Tampa Bay Tech\, who already is working on a robust apprenticeship program in partnership with Accenture.  This potential request reflects growing recognition of how workforce training and apprenticeships can strengthen both individual careers and local economic development. \n  \n🗓️ Next Committee Meeting Date: Friday\, September 19 \n🕒 Time: 9:00 am \n📍 Location: St.  Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce \n🔗 Learn more and register here
